Nile Souq, in mostra a Macef e Maison & Object 2010 Con la mostra Nile Souq arrivano in Europa i risultati dell'International Design & Handicraft Workshop realizzato lo scorso novembre a Il Cairo (Egitto). Organizzato dall’istituto IMC (Industrial Modernization Center - Egypt) in partnership con UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) il workshop era finalizzato alla ricerca di prodotti nuovi basati su antiche tecniche di produzione artigianali, perché “tradotti” nel linguaggio del design contemporaneo, potessero affrontare le sfide dell'attuale mercato globale. Il workshop ha visto il coinvolgimento di designer egiziani, europei, oltre ad artigiani e piccoli imprenditori locali.

With Nile Souq exhibition arrive in Europe the results of the International Design & Handicraft Workshop done last November in Cairo (Egypt).
Organized by the IMC (Industrial Modernization Center - Egypt) in partnership with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), the workshop was aimed at finding new products based on ancient artisan production techniques, as "translated" into the language of contemporary design, in order to meet the challenges of the global market. Solar Module è la prima piastrella ceramica con cella fotoelettrica e modulo illuminante incorporati. Composta a scelta dell'acquirente, assume l'aspetto di un pannello d'arredo che al mattino protegge gli ambienti dalla luce diretta del sole, di sera restituisce alla casa, sotto forma di luce, l'energia acquisita durante il giorno.

Solar Module of the Pulsar was selected to represent excellence in design Made in Italy IDoT 2009/2010, cultural initiative for the international promotion of the best Italian design, organized by Italian Design Foundation. Solar Module is the first ceramic tile with photoelectric cell and illuminating module incorporated. Composed custom for the buyer, it takes the appearance of a panel that during the morning protect the environment from direct sunlight and in the evening returned to the house, in the form of light, the energy gained during the day.

Christmust 2009 dedicato alle Aziende Italiane, come tributo ad un paese cheda sempre ha diffuso bellezza attraverso piccole e grandi creazioni d’autore. 100 oggetti da conservare come una fotografia a memoria delle mutevoli tendenze, storie da raccontare per la rapida ascesa, e storie da rievocare oggi simbolo nel mondo, del design italiano.

Per curiosità ho fatto un piccolo sperimento, ricercare su Wikipedia la voce "industrial design", prima su Wikipedia in italiano e dopo sulla versione in inglese. E' interessate notare le differenze di interpretazione delle stesse parole nelle due versioni, piu pragmatica e concreta quella inglese, forse riflettono anche un pensiero diverso relativo al design...........

Just for curiosity I did a little experiment, I research on the Wikipedia the text "industrial design" before in the Italian version and than into the English. And is interesting to note the differing interpretations of the same words in the two versions, more pragmatic and practical than English, perhaps also reflect a different thought on the design ...........

Lampada a led Houdinì
Perchè Houdinì? Un paralume senza apparente fonte di luce, è la parete interna del paralume ad emettere la luce grazie alla magia di 150 piccoli led nascosti tra la parete esterna d'alluminio e quella interna di metacrilato.

I LED offrono moltissimi vantaggi nell'illuminazione sia da interno che da esterno. Funzionano a basso voltaggio, con un rendimento energetico (lumen/watt) molto migliore delle sorgenti a incandescenza e assolutamente competitivo con le lampade a fluorescenza. L'elevata efficienza è sicuramente una delle caratteristiche più significative: in molti impieghi, il risparmio energetico rispetto a una tradizionale sorgente a incandescenza è stimato tra l'80 e il 90%.

Altri vantaggi concreti sono la grande affidabilità e la lunga vita, con una durata media valutata attorno alle 100.000 ore, le dimensioni ridotte e l'estrema flessibilità alle esigenze di design e di progettazione. Inoltre, i LED non emettono raggi ultravioletti, non producono calore, non contengono mercurio, non risentono di vibrazioni, si accendono istantaneamente, possono essere facilmente dimmerabili, consentono di realizzare piccoli punti luce, sorgenti puntiformi e infiniti effetti cromatici.

LEDs offer many advantages in lighting, both internally and outside. Il Centro di Artigianato a Foz do Iguaçu è stato progettato per servire i turisti, ma anche la popolazione della vicina comunità di Foz do Iguaçu, e per creare nuove opportunità per la commercializzazione della produzione degli artigiani. Potrà essere usata anche per la realizzazione di eventi culturali, sfilate di moda e altri eventi. "Vorremmo essere visto come un luogo in cui la comunità può camminare, pranzare e fare shopping. Il Centro di Artigianato a Foz do Iguaçu ha una superficie di 3.200 mq distribuiti in negozi su due piani, con rampe per facilitare l'accesso delle persone con handicap. Creato per servire i turisti e gli abitanti delle vicine città di Foz do Iguaçu, il centro, oltre a contribuire alla commercializzazione dei prodotti sviluppati da artigiani, sara anche utilizzato per la realizzazione di eventi culturali.

Alberi luminosi o lampioni ?
Solar Trees sono le nuove lampade per arredo urbano disegnate da Giulio e Valerio Vinaccia.
Stile, design e sostenibilità per un prodotto innovativo. Sono un omaggio all’energia e alla bellezza che la natura ci offre da sempre: per l’alimentazione utilizzano pannelli solari in silicio monocristallino da 40/80/100Watt che, in assenza d’irradiazione solare, assicurano un’autonomia di 1-2-4 giorni.

Sono una fusione tra un albero e un lampione, così come gli alberi spiegano le loro foglie al sole per vivere, così queste grosse ”foglie” create da pannelli solari, catturano la luce per restituirla durante la notte.
Per i materiali si affidano all’alluminio verniciato in diversi range di colori (la testa è in fusione di alluminio, il corpo in tubi dello stesso materiale); la fonte luminosa è un proiettore a LED di potenza variabile (da 18w a 48w), con una potenza illuminante pari ad una lampada alogena di 400w.

Trees or street lamps?
Solar Trees are the new lamps for furniture designed by Giulio and Valerio Vinaccia.
Style, design and sustainability for an innovative product. They are a tribute to the energy and beauty that Mother Nature always gives us: the power to use solar panels in monocrystalline silicon by 40/80/100Watt that in the absence of solar radiation and provide a range of 1-2 -4 days.

They are a fusion between a tree and a streetlight, is a metaphor of life, explain how the trees their leaves in the sun to live, so these large "leaves" created by solar panels, catching the light to return during the night.

They are built aluminum painted in different range of colors (the head is cast aluminum, the body in tubes of the same material), the light source is an power LED lamp adjustable (from 48w to 18W) with a power illuminating of an halogen lamp of 400W.

Una riflessione, siamo sicuri che un prodotto industriale, ecologico, amico dell'ambiente sia quello realizzato in modo che sia facilmente riciclabile?

Io credo di no. Credo che se si inizia a progettare qualcosa, e si parte pensando al suo futuro riciclo, stiamo partendo con il piede sbagliato, e come se gli dessimo una sorta di scadenza, di diritto ad essere realizzato cosi-cosi, non a regola d'arte, tanto lo ricicliamo.......
Credo, che il vero design ecologico sia quello che studia un buon prodotto, fatto per durare (tanto), che sappia invecchiare e magari anche migliorare nel tempo.

Sinceramente sono stufo della cultura usa e getta, preferisco quella usa e tieni.
Qualcosa si sta muovendo in questo senso, vedi per esempio i ragazzi di Brikolor che propongono mobili fatti per durare 300 anni, bravi per lo meno ci provano, dalla loro pagina traduco:
Brikolör progetta e produce mobili a Göteborg in Svezia. Abbiamo l'ambizione per la fabbricazione mobili con una garanzia emotiva e tecnica che possa durare 300 anni.

Un'altra azienda la Howies, azienda Gallese propone abbigliamento e borse, fatti per durare, e la loro filosofia recita: Questi prodotti sono stati fatti per durare. Così che un giorno si possano trasmettere a qualcun altro. E possono continuare i loro viaggi.

Viviamo in tempi di risorse limitate, ma illimitato desiderio di consumare. La risposta reale è semplice: è consumare meno come consumatore, a fare una migliore prodotto, come produttore.
In futuro dovremo assumere maggiori responsabilità per il nostro consumo. Il produttore e il consumatore hanno il dovere di condividere tale responsabilità.
Viviamo in tempi interessanti. Dal punto di vista del produttore, il prodotto che dura più a lungo,usa meno risorse. I principali ingredienti per ottenere questo risultato sono la qualità e il buon design.
Per fare qualcosa bene, al meglio che puoi fare, significa lavorare di più. Ogni punto, ogni zip, ogni piccolo elemento va predso in esame.
Allora, e solo allora, possiamo dire che abbiamo pienamente compreso la responsabilità di fare qualcosa.
Questo prodotto è garantito per un minimo di 10 anni a decorrere dalla data di acquisto originale. Le probabilità sono che durerà più lungo di quello.

Peraltro un approccio di questo tipo, sono convinto, che alla lunga paga; la stupida corsa dei nostri industriali a produrre in Cina o posti simili, sta facendo dei danni tremendi al prodotto made in Italy, forse in una apparente prima fase ha dato un po di respiro alle aziende, ma le conseguenze stanno arrivando con un lento sputtanamento dell'immagine del prodotto italiano, attacchi due bottoni, una etichetta e miracolo! è made in Italy.

Per dare alcuni esempi personali, da mio nonno ho avuto alcune cose che uso ancora: dei mobili, perfetti dopo 80 anni; un cannocchiale Zeiss che funziona da Dio; una giacca da caccia in lana cotta comprata a Londra l'anno che sono nato (1955), è tuttora bellissima e funzionale.
Certo non si può applicare questa filosofia a tutto, i prodotti ad alto contenuto tecnologico vanno aggiornati, ma per moltissime cose si.

IDI ZERO1 e ZERO2 - A new concept of motorcycle helmet

Le calotte dei caschi IDI Zero1 e Zero2 sono due, sovrapposte (calotta interna e gabbia esterna), aumentando in questo modo la resistenza e l'aerazione del casco. Il grintoso e colorato spider esterno protegge le foratura della calotta interna dagli agenti esterni e aumenta la resistenza del casco. Lo spider, in policarbonato colorato in pasta, ha anche funzione antigraffio ed è disponibile in diversi colori.
Entrambi i modelli IDI potranno essere customizzati dal rivenditore “just in time” al momento dell'acquisto, montando lo spider del colore desiderato dal motociclista. L'operazione è talmente semplice che potrà essere ripetuta più volte, dallo stesso motociclista, per cambiare look al proprio casco in ogni momento.

The IDI helmets shields are two, overlapped (inner shields and outer cage), increasing the resistance and the ventilation of the helmet. The gritty and colorful spider protects the inner shield from the external agents and increases the resistance of the helmet. The spider, in colored polycarbonate, also protect from scratch and is available in several colors.
Both models IDI can be customized by the dealer "just in time" at the time of mounting the spider in the color desired by the costumer. The operation is so simple that can be repeated several times by the same customer to change look of his helmet at all times.
All models also IDI are predisposed to use the new device IDIPHONE (Bluetooth Integrated System) - an international patent Newmax. Ñandeva is an crafts expansion program that aims the strengthen of a three-frontier borders identity ( in the border region between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay) through the insertion of
elements and icons that forward to these peoples culture. In a constant dialogue between designers and craftsmen, the products are developed with the intention of generating income and opportunity to the producers' community. Thanks to Malba Aguilar and Juan Sotuyo idealism, the program was born in 2004, during the first Crafts and design Workshop, from which resulted many works with great esthetic and cultural value. Then, it was born the seed of what would become the current program, consolidated after the execution of a three-frontier-border director plan, accomplished in February, 2006.

Giulio and Valerio Vinaccia, are authors of the book “Iconographic Elements of the Triple Frontier Region” and advisors to Ñadeva since the beginning of the program.
The book “Iconographic Elements of the Triple Border” is the result of a study carried out by anthropologists and historians, who identified typical elements of the region. With this data, a group of designers, under the supervision of Giulio Vinaccia, visited 28 municipalities in the Tri-border area in order to collect images of the elements. The work resulted in an image database with about five thousand pictures, which was the basis for the creation of the first 450 symbols that define the region.
Now, all icons are available in the 832 pages of the two volume book. Divided into eight chapters (colonization, architecture, Guarani people, Jesuit missions, flora and fauna, arts, tourism and
geography), the book provides information on the meaning of each icon and suggestions of applications for handicraft.

Democratic Design, that promotes the analysis of the original material cultures as a starting point for the development of newtypologies of objects.
The goal is to rediscover and to preserve techniques, expressions and local traditions starting from an idea of design as a democratic action that allows poor communities to access to free and voluntary consultation of international experts. The activity of design through creative workshops goes beyond the classical isolation of the handicraft communities making possible a comparison between them, the surrounding nations and with the people of the whole world, making them visible and therefore “defensible” (communities disappear every year and nobody knows). The project develops through an iconographic research that identifies expressions and peculiarity of the culture at stake, to translate them in a basic bidimensional and three - dimensional material, on the base of which the propositions will develop.

Torino Geodesign Project

A project and competition, Torino Geodesign is first and foremost an idea which defines an extraordinarily large and productive field of action: self-determined design, produced in limited series by communities inside huge globalised metropolises.

Project: Packaging for food / Peruvians communities.
On weekends, inhabitants of Peruvian origin gather in the Parco della Pellerina, where they cook and share traditional Peruvian dishes. The project calls for creating and commercializing packaging for this food.
